An agribusiness workshop featuring a best-selling small business accounting program
will be offered at California State University, Fresno next month.
"Introduction to Computerized Accounting and Control Systems in Agriculture: The
Power of Quickbooks Pro" will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17. The presenter will be
Fresno State agricultural economics professor James Cothern.
Quickbooks is used by a variety of industries, including agriculture, Cothern said in
explaining the versatility of the program.
"It's a complete double entry system, but the program takes much of the need for
in-depth understanding of accounting principles from the user since it does much of the
necessary posting," he said. Quickbooks also contains a complete payroll module and
the developers provide annual payroll tax updates for a nominal fee, he added.
The half-day workshop will provide an introduction to the program, demonstrating its
capabilities and versatility. It will be geared to managers of small to mid-sized
agricultural operations. Topics to be covered include basic record-keeping, accounts and
opening balances, data entry, using the payroll module, enterprise accounting, managing
inventories, and generating reports.
Fee for the workshop is $25. It may be followed by "on-demand" hands-on
sessions for interested participants. Seating is limited, with advanced registration
required. For details, see Announcements and Events or call (559) 278-4405.
