Enology researcher will oversee VERC operations

CSU, Fresno Chemistry Professor Barry Gump has taken the administrative reins of the Viticulture and Enology Research Center (VERC) following the retirement of long-time Director Vincent Petrucci.
"Professor" Petrucci served as VERC director since the center was established as part of the California Agricultural Technology Institute in 1984. He has been a leader of viticulture and enology programs throughout his 45-year tenure at CSU, Fresno.
Mr. Petrucci will continue his association with CSU, Fresno as a professor emeritus and will maintain an office at VERC.
Professor Gump, the new interim director, also reveals a long tenure at CSU, Fresno. He joined the faculty as chemistry professor in 1967 and also has been a member of the Department of Enology, Food Science and Nutrition since 1980.
He has served as research operations coordinator for VERC for the last two years and has himself led an assortment of research activities on table grapes, wine grapes, wine, and juice concentrate. His primary interest is analytical methodology as it applies to grape and grape products.
He is a member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture and served a term as a director. He was honored as CSU, Fresno's outstanding professor in 1992.{ page top }
